“Hanson Drug is located in a small rural town
in Minnesota. The store has been in operation
since 1899 and I purchased it in 1994. In 2001,
I moved the pharmacy to a new building and
put in counting technology.
“The counting system proved
to be a mistake because we
still had to take the vial to
the cell and then apply a
label to the vial. That process
leaves a lot of room for error.
Plus, I was still so busy I
couldn’t even leave the store
to see what other technology
options were available.

“Finally, I cut out an article about ScriptPro’s
SP 100 and carried it around for a while.
The SP 100 is a better system than the counting
system because it performs the complete
dispensing process and eliminates many steps
that can result in an error. It’s very compact
and requires much less maintenance than the
counting system.
“The SP 100 fills almost half of our entire
workload, everyday—over 45% of our
script volume.
“Before having the robot, when a technician
wanted a day off or called in sick, the pharmacy
was in chaos. I also had a
high employee turnover rate
because of the stress, and it’s
not easy finding qualified
staff where I am.
“With the SP 100, the
pharmacy isn’t stressful.
When I go home at night,
I can relax; I don’t worry about what might have
happened during the day. If a technician calls in
sick, we can still handle the workload with the
SP 100. Or, when I have a day off, I know the
staff can handle the workload without me, so
I don’t spend my day worrying.”
